In the competitive world of residential construction, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the challenges of building a successful business. For many tradies, like carpenters, the dream of becoming a builder can feel out of reach.

But stories like Jake’s—who made the jump from carpentry to chasing his builder’s license—show that success in the building industry is possible with the right mindset, community, and guidance.

In this blog, we will dive into Jake’s inspiring journey and how his growth reflects the potential that every new home builder can tap into, with the right support.

Overcoming Doubts and Finding Confidence

Duayne

One of the big wins for me has been Jake, just seeing his growth.

So one of our members, Jake, is actually a carpenter and has always dreamed of becoming a builder, but he sees the builders he works for and the terrible businesses they’re running.

He honestly got taken back because he didn’t think he had it in him to run a successful building business. And the growth that he’s had in not even six months has been next level

The big thing is, he’s been implementing what we’ve taught him into his carpentry business, and having huge success to the point that he now feels confident that he can be a builder

He’s actually enrolled in doing his builder’s license.

We have a few members like that, don’t we?

They know that they want to get their builder’s license, and they decide. They’ve seen, looked at in the industry and seen how terribly it can go.

Learning from Experienced Builders

And they’ve decided that they want to start their business the right way.

Learn everything from the ground up from people who’ve made all the mistakes and can share from a place of experience and knowledge what you need to do that’s so different to what’s out there in the industry.

So different from what’s being told and shared and taught by other coaches who’ve never worked in a building business or have actually gone out of business as a builder and then they’ve turned around and started a coaching business.

To see Jake, he has turned up.

He’s always on our Zoom calls.

He’s always contributing.

We made him one of our A-Team captains.

He’s got an incredible leadership position in our community because he just keeps showing up and putting into practice what he’s learning.

And it’s been so brilliant to see that it’s given him the confidence to say,

“Okay, I actually am going to go for my builder’s ticket and I’m going to do business the right way.”

Duayne

It’s been really good for me because I really respect Jake.

Without going into too many details, Jake has a lot of personal stuff going on.

He’s an incredible father, incredible husband.

Balancing Personal Life and Professional Growth

And even with all the stuff that he has to deal with on a daily basis in his own life, he still shows up.

He still puts in the effort, and he’s seeing the rewards.

His business is now operating really, really well.

He’s now getting his builder’s license.

And I just cannot wait to follow his journey and see his potential in being a builder, because I believe he’s going to be an incredible builder, but again, the flow and effect to how that’s helping his family.

Amelia

And his community as well.

He’s getting involved.

He’s been able to free up time to get involved in community activities that are really meaningful to him.

And what we see is that this is actually the new definition of the residential construction industry.

Jake is the type of builder that is redefining what the residential construction industry is going to be like.

Jake’s story shows how a solid foundation, ongoing learning, and the right support can help new home builders succeed. His journey highlights the potential for any tradie to make it as a successful builder.

As the residential construction industry continues to evolve, builders like Jake are paving the way, proving that with the right approach, anyone can achieve great things in this space.
