Do you understand the importance of systems and processes in making your business a success?
Meet Travis Griffiths, owner of Sivart Construction Group.
Learn more about how he has found systems and processes to be important keys in having a successful building business.
I’m Travis Griffiths and I run the Sivart Construction Group.
HOW DID YOU COME ACROSS LIVE LIFE BUILD?
I was following Duayne on Instagram and got an interest in learning a bit more about how I can run my business. So yeah, that was how I heard about Live Life Build.
WHAT WAS THE DRIVING FORCE TO WANT TO CHANGE?
So the driving force for me was having a couple of hard clients that really tested me. And I realised I was a bit in over my head with running my business.
So I really looked out for people who could help me and give me some pointers on how I could correct that and do some good processes and systems to sort of help me.
WHAT OTHER AVENUES DID YOU EXPLORE?
Yeah, I tried a few different avenues, a couple of different builders, a coach group, one specific group, one of the leading building coaches in Australia basically told me I don’t earn enough money for him to be interested in helping me so that was a bit of a kick in the guts. So that was a bit of a letdown, they still ended up charging me for their time, but I didn’t really get much out of it. And other groups were, yeah, they’ve got a few processes there that I sort of implemented at the start. But then it just felt like it was a bit stale, just repeated information over and over.
WHAT PROCESSES HAVE EVOLVED IN YOUR BUSINESS SINCE JOINING LIVE LIFE BUILD?
I guess just getting things done. So knowing exactly where I’m going with my processes, and understanding what’s involved in order to get things rolling, that’s really helped me.
I guess, in the practical advice that you get through the groups through the community, it really does help us at Sivart to do our best for our clients.
We realise that it’s not just about us, it’s about everyone who’s involved: our tradesmen, suppliers, clients, and finding out a way that can help them to get what they want, then that really helps us know.
WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER TO BE A PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT OF LIVE LIFE BUILD?
I think the one on one phone calls are really beneficial. Being able to contact Duayne or Amelia and ask them a really pinpointed question about how to run a business and, and what I should be looking for in clients or when I want to work with an architect. They’re really awesome avenues to get that one on one advice. A lot of the systems out there don’t really have that. There might be webinars or group calls and they don’t really have that one on one coaching unless you pay the real premium dollars. Whereas this is sort of, you’re all in, you get everything that you need and it’s really beneficial.
HOW DO YOU FIND THE LIVE LIFE BUILD COMMUNITY?
Yeah, that was one of the best things I found with the community is that you realise that you’re not the only one going through the problems that builders face and everybody else has gone through it before. So having that reassurance that these other builders are really going through the same thing, come out the other side and are better for it.
That was a real faith strengthening thing for me, it made me realise that I could do my best.
YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE PAC PROCESS?
The PAC Process is really something that we’re trying to drive into every project that we do. We get a lot of knockback, because people sort of don’t understand how it fits in with our smaller sort of projects that we do. But in saying that people are really understanding of the systems and how it works to benefit them.
Sometimes that takes a lot of explaining and going through what the problems are in the industry and how we can fix them with the PAC Process.
But I definitely see a benefit to it for not only the client but also us as a builder knowing exactly what we’re including in our quote, in what’s included in the plans. Everything’s going to match everything’s going to work. And then we don’t have that stress of worrying about what might go wrong.
HOW DO YOU GET OUT OF BED NOW?
Yeah, I don’t stress, I don’t have the worries that I used to have. I used to get out of bed, dreading getting up and thinking I’ve got to make phone calls or send emails or, you know, I hear the sound on my phone, and that would stress me out. But now it doesn’t stress me out about my phone, I’ll answer it. I’ll talk to whoever’s on the other side. Even if it’s telemarketers, I’ll have a chat. I don’t know why. But I’ll have a talk to them.
Yeah, I don’t find it that stressful to wake up in the morning, I feel like I’ve got a bit more control of my life. And I can wake up happy and spend some time with my family and have a little bit more freedom to sort of clear my head in the morning.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO ANYONE THINKING OF JOINING LIVE LIFE BUILD?
It can seem daunting when there’s something new out there. It’s this new system, it might seem a little fresh, but I reckon just go ahead and do it because it is something new that’s worth learning. And it will benefit your business in some way or another.
Also being a part of a community that’s run by not only Duayne as the builder, but Amelia, who is an architect, and getting those two aspects of the industry together to sort of tell you how it works between each it really is beneficial to know as builders. Sometimes we know a lot about one side and not the other. Or we might know more about the architectural side and not the building side.
But getting the information from two people who are on both sides of the industry really is helpful or I can just go ahead and get into it.
