In the competitive custom home building industry, having the right mindset can matter more than years of experience. Builders who adopt a growth mindset, embracing change and setting bigger goals, are able to overcome challenges and thrive in an evolving industry.

Take Ryan, for instance—our builder member who thought his business was doing well, until he realised he could achieve far more by breaking through limiting beliefs. Let’s explore how mindset shifts can lead to extraordinary growth in custom home building.

How a Growth Mindset Helps Builders Overcome Limiting Beliefs

Amelia

Ryan’s one of our amazing members who, without fail, is always doing incredible Friday wins, always talking really openly and honestly about what he’s been struggling with or challenged by, and also then celebrating his successes with us, which is so great to see, isn’t it?

Duayne

I think the thing with Ryan for me is that, he thought his business wasn’t too bad, he knew there was a few little things that needed to be worked on, but he’s now realised that he can achieve more, he can do more, he can have bigger goals.

He’s broken those old-fashioned stories that he was telling himself.

And just to see that realisation in him at our last live event has been enormous. And that’s only, what, six, eight weeks ago or so.

And even the growth that he has had since that live event is unbelievable.

The Importance of Community in Building Success

Amelia

It’s really important who you put yourself in a room with, like who you actually spend your time with, because this industry is full of bad news,

full of builders going out of business,

full of “we can’t do it any other way except the way we’ve done it for decades.”

And it’s just not true.

But you can’t know that until you put yourself in a room with other builders who are smashing it out of the park,

who are having similar struggles to you,

who are taking responsibility,

getting the support and help that they need,

facing what’s difficult.

And actually then moving forward and putting things into action to really change things.

And I just, it blows me away to see when you have a builder like Ryan set a new standard for himself, actually say,

“no, I’m going to disrupt this story that I’ve always believed. I’m going to set a new standard and I’m going to change things.”

Duayne

Again, it’s you don’t know what you don’t know.

The hardest part, or one of the hardest parts, in our industry is that everyone takes a perception of what they see on social media, and the reality is that 95% of that is just all fake news.

So yeah, Ryan’s, again, I’m really, really keen to see where Ryan takes it to his next level.

Amelia

I am too.

Ryan’s transformation is proof that a growth mindset can be a pivotal factor in a custom home builder’s journey to success.

If you want to break through the noise of industry challenges, the key lies in rethinking your approach and embracing the belief that you can always improve, grow, and succeed.

In the end, success isn’t just about building homes—it’s about building the right mindset that can take you to new heights.
